The BAPS Charities 10k Challenge was launched on the evening of Saturday 20 February 2010 at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir,
London. The official partner for the event this year is Barnardo’s, the children’s charity that “believes in the potential of every child and young person, no matter who they are, what they have done or what they have been through.”

The 10k Challenge, taking place in April 2010, will bring together people from a variety of different ages and backgrounds as well as join local communities from across the country to support the various good causes of BAPS Charities, including Barnardo’s, one the leading children’s charities in the UK. This year’s event will allow participants to complete the 10 kilometre distance with the style, creativity and physical challenge of their choice. Whether participants run the distance, complete the route with a light jog, or just take a brisk walk – the event will provide many of the local charities and Barnardo’s with essential funds to continue their good work.

Martin Field, UK Director of Fundraising at Barnardo’s and Mary Gaunt, from their Challenge events team, joined BAPS Charities at the Mandir in London for the official launch. Also with them were Paramjit Panesar and Bandana Sabherwal, service managers from the Spectrum foster care project, and Brij Thakrar, a long-term foster carer.

In his address to the assembly, Martin offered his praise and gratitude to BAPS Charities on organising the 10k Challenge and their great work in the community. He said: “We are honoured to be partnering with an organisation that has won a Queen’s Award for its work with children. You certainly take children seriously and are well recognised for that. We’re honoured to be a part of that and honoured to be a beneficiary of the BAPS Challenge event. Every step you take on the Challenge will be a step we are able to make a difference with to a young person or a child that we work with at Barnardo’s.”

BAPS Charities volunteer Kamlesh Patel added, “We’re absolutely delighted to be working with Barnardo’s. Children have always been a big priority for us and we hope that as many people as possible can join us and contribute to what promises to be a wonderful, fun-filled event.”
